Since March 2019, the Office for Scientific Publications – Open Access, Research Registry, Publishing Activities of the University of Trento with the patronage of IOSSG (Italian Working supporting Open Science) and the collaboration of FOSTER has been coordinating the translation of the FOSTER Open Science Training Handbook.
The volunteers who have joined the campaign of recruitment via social media, come from different Italian universities or are affiliated to Italian and international research institutions. Each one has adopted a chapter of the handbook and contributes either with a translation or a revision.

The Open Science Training Handbook provides a broad and comprehensive overview of the resources, methods and tools available to support trainers engaged in teaching -and especially- inspiring researchers and PhD students on topics related to open science.
The handbook not only explains the concepts and actions related to the Open Science but also provides information on Open Science practices including a series of examples and practical exercises as well as a chapter with tips and tricks on organizing training events on and around Open Science.
The online handbook was written by 14 international experts during a book sprint in February 2018 at the National Library of Science and Technology in Hanover. The handbookl, as well as the creation of a portal that collects a series of online courses for young researchers, doctoral candidates and administrative staff, is part of the activities of two projects FOSTER and FOSTER Plus funded by the European Commission under the Framework Programmes.
The original version of the handbook is available as a GitHub (license CC 0) and can be consulted, updated and commented on at any time by the scientific community. The text can also be downloaded in pdf format. In addition to the English version, the handbook has been translated into Portuguese, Spanish, Greek and is currently being translated into French and German.
The Italian version of the “Open Science: Just Science done right” sticker will be sent to all translators & revisioners!
