Design is you
The Design Research Lab (DRLab) at the University of Trento has the pleasure of presenting earlier than expected results in the educational, production, and public policy systems in Trentino. The DRLab is devoted to the regeneration of these systems through the dissemination and knowledge transfer of design culture. According to this aim, Service Design has been adopted and evidenced as a strategic stimulant of successful economic and civil growth in Trentino.
The event organized by the Design Research Lab at the University of Trento in collaboration with Associazione Panificatori aims to present the objectives and the results of the project “Service Design for Pantrentino”. This project was included in a wider methodological proposal by the DRLab about the Production System. The specific objective of this project was to support the stakeholders engaged in the complex system of the bread made in Trentino. The project was organised by the DRLab timing and the formats. As the main result, design principles were identified through the Service Design methodologies with the aim to support new strategic actions in favour of the “Pantrentino”.
The event organized by the Design Research Lab at the University of Trento in collaboration with the Buonarroti-Pozzo Institute in Trento aims to present the objectives and the results of the project “Service Design for School-Work Alternation Project”. The first on its kind, this project was included in a wider methodological proposal by the DRLab about the educational system. The specific objective of this project was to support the School-Work Alternation Project of the Buonarroti-Pozzo Institute in Trento through Service Design methodologies in order that companies, volunteer and sport associations, cultural entities, institutions as well as professional association can became actual partners of the educational institutes of Trentino.
In a series of three lectures, Tom Bieling will attempt to clarify the concept of Design Research and discuss its relevance and theoretical/practical application. The core argument is that design research offers an entry to conceptualizing the artificial interfaces of design through which we meet the world, which may take many forms such has material objects, virtual spaces, hybrid systems, and social processes.
This seminar is for designers, thinkers, and creatives that want to test their assumptions about themselves, the world, and reality in order to better understand the creative process and build better systems and services. It will be argued that most human beings live in two ‘worlds’ – one that is integrated and whole and another that is fragmented and confused. By examining the ways in which we ‘think’ about the landscape in which we live and the way we interact with both it and ourselves, we will explore the question of personal identity, how our past influences our creative capacity, and how our relationships with ourselves and each other ultimately affect the world we build and live within.
The seminar, presented by the Design Research Lab at the University of Trento, investigates the possibility of research that is open to an interdisciplinary aesthetic developed through critical theory, visual studies, the philosophy of the imaginary, theories of perception, and last but not least, the theory of complexity and design. The seminar is held in collaboration with the journal I Castelli di Yale. (http://cyonline.unife.it/).
The seminar, organized by the Design Research Lab in Trento with the presence of, among others, professor Tom Bieling from the Design Research Lab in Berlin, will scientifically investigate the interpretations and controversies that define the concept of “design” within different historical and cultural contexts and, more specifically, in an evolutionary perspective. To this end, disciplines and fields of study like philosophy, biosemiotics, cultural theory, and media studies as well as schools of thought like positivism, rationalism, constructionism, and the new philosophy of science will be taken into consideration in order to understand and apply design research in its multiple forms.

In collaboration with the Buonarroti-Pozzo Institute and Iprase del Trentino, DRLab introduces Service Design in the team of leaders who deal with the proper functioning of the innovation of the complex School-Work Alternation Project ecosystem. This allows to all the stakeholders to be protagonists in the complex systems composed of companies, voluntary and sport associations, cultural entities, institutions as well as professional association.

The “Moscow Innovation Roadshow” is an international project promoted by the Moscow Agency of Innovation, which aims at:
-supporting the creation and the development of innovative infrastructures in Moscow;
-attracting young talents and experts to Moscow; -creating a stimulating work environment and a competitive network of partners from all over the world. Details about the project and its related study and career opportunities are available here: http://opendoor.moscow/
The project will be presented in many European cities including Trento on July 4th at 2 p.m. at the Department of Humanities of the University of Trento.
In the seminar will be presented an overview of the Laboratory of Knowledge Architecture, based in the Technische Universität Dresden and founded in 2015 as the 3rd section of the financed research unit. Its research fields chiefly focuses on Co-Design, Collaborative Spaces, Urban Social Innovation, Smart Cities and Bionics. The European H2020 project U_CODE (Urban Collective Design Environment) will be displayed as an example of work on mass participation and Co-Design in urban development.
