PI

Alessandro Grecucci, Principal Investigator

Alessandro is the Principal investigator of the Clinical and Affective Neuroscience Lab. He currently works at DipSCo - Department of Cognitive Sciences and at CISMed - Center for Medical Sciences. He has a background in Cognitive Neuroscience and in Psychotherapy. His research interests combine these two fields, and range from the study of the brain mechanisms behind emotional processing, to the development of new treatment protocols to address psychological disorders (see also  http://www.alessandrogrecucci.it).

Federica Meconi, Co-investigator

Federica is an assistant professor at DipSCo - Department of Cognitive Sciences - and a Research Associate at the School of Psychology in the University of Birmingham. Her main research interest is on social neuroscience (human empathy and social cognition). In her work, she mainly investigates how past experiences influence interacting attitudes (see also fedemeconi.weebly.com). 

Irene Messina, Co-investigator

Irene is Associate Professor at Universitas Mercatorum (Rome, Italy). Moreover, she is Research Associate at the Department of Psychiatry III, University of Ulm (Germany). Her main research interests are affective neuroscience (neural correlates of emotion regulation, psychopathology and psychological treatments) and psychotherapy research.

 

Post Docs

Ivan Patané

Ivan Patané is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bologna. He completed his Double Degree PhD in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Bologna and University Claude Bernard Lyon. His primary research focuses on understanding how sensorimotor, social, and emotional factors shape the way we perceive the space around our body. He also investigates the effects of visuospatial modulations induced by prismatic adaptation on both time and spatial representations.

Shima Seyed-Allaei

Shima Seyed-Allaei is a postdoctoral fellow at Universitas Mercatorum/DIPSCo working on the neural predictors of treatment failure in borderline personality disorder patients

 

PhD Students

Parisa Ahmadi Ghomroudi, 3rd year PhD student

With a background in Physics and Neuroimaging, Parisa's main research interest is gaining a deeper understanding of emotional processes in both health and disease. Her research focuses on investigating the structural, functional and temporal underpinnings of various emotion regulation strategies, such as acceptance, reappraisal, and suppression using MRI, fMRI and EEG

Khanitin JornKokgoud, 3rd year PhD student in co-supervision with Peera Wongupparaj

Khanitin is a third-year PhD student at the College of Research Methodology and Cognitive Science, Burapha University, Thailand, and at DIPSCO, University of Trento, Italy. He has a background in cognitive psyhology and his research interest relies on narcissistic personality disorder and its neural bases.

Teresa Baggio, 2nd year PhD student

Teresa is a second-year PhD student at the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science. She has a background in Biology and Neuroscience and her research interests relies on anxiety disorders, in terms of neural basis, possible treatments and correlations with other psychopathologies. 
Such investigation is done with the use of neuroimaging and noninvasive brain stimulation techniques. 

Richard Bakiaj, 1st year PhD student

Richard is interested in antisocial and narcissistic personalities, their neural bases and the possibility to develop machine learning predictive models based on brain and psychological features. Such investigation is done with the use of neuroimaging and noninvasive brain stimulation techniques.

Clara Isabel is a Master's student in Human-Computer Interaction at the Department of Psychology and Cognitive Science. His research interest is centered on the integration of machine learning with neuroimaging techniques to predict neurocognitive mechanisms of personality.

External collaborators

Bianca Monachesi
Bianca is researcher at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA, Trieste, Italy). She obtained her PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Rome Sapienza (Italy) working on the attentional effects of facial, socio-affective signals processing and on emotional processing and regulation. These topics have been investigated by means of behavioral, eye-tracking, autonomic, functional thermal imaging measures and non-invasive brain stimulation (tDCS). Bianca has spent three years at CLIAN.

Sara Sorella
Sara is a research fellow at the University of Udine, and past alumni of CLIAN where she's obtained her PhD. In the CLI.A.N. Lab, she had the chance to integrate her neuroscientific, clinical and mindfulness studies. She is interested in how emotions (anger in particular) are altered in different clinical disorders, and how these conditions can be improved by regulation strategies, especially with mindfulness-based treatments. She relies on neuroimaging methods (MRI) and brain stimulation techniques (tDCS). Now she is working on mindfulness

Gaia Lapomarda
Gaia is currently at the University of Innsbruck.. She deals with Personality Neuroscience, a new branch of affective neuroscience, investigating the mechanisms involved in emotion regulation in healthy and psychiatric populations. To do this, she relies on MRI and EEG techniques.  

Miguel David Sabogal Rueda
Adjunct professor of the Learning Groups course at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (UCSC) in Brescia, and he is a Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist. He collaborates on various scientific research projects with the Catholic University and other educational entities dedicated to clinical, neurophysiological, and psychotherapeutic research. His main research interests include: -Clinical psychology and processes of change. -Emotion regulation within the psychotherapeutic process from an intersubjective psychodynamic perspective. -The emotional and neural responses of the psychotherapist to the patient's personality. 

Chiara Orsini
Chiara is a graduated Psychology Master student at University of Trento. Her main research interest is emotion processing in clinical groups, such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. She focused on the coordinate-based meta-analytic approach. Chiara is now doing a PhD at the University of Innsbruck.

Paola Feraco
Paola is Neuroradiologist at Santa Chiara Hospital of Trento. Moreover she is currently completing her PhD in Oncology, Hematology and Pathology at University of Bologna in the field of advanced MRI techniques applies to brain tumors diagnosis. Her main research interests are in the field of diagnostic and advanced Neuroimaging (MR-Spectroscopy and  brain morphometry) applied to chronic pain, emotions and neurodegenerative diseases.

Roma Siugzdaite 
Roma is a Research Associate at MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, University of Cambridge (United Kingdom). Her main research interests are: 1) to understand the mechanisms and principles of typically or atypically developing brain systems; 2) to identify the potential mechanism of resilience in children from low SES families.

Edoardo Pappaianni
Edoardo is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Psychiatric Center Ballerup, Mental Health Services of the Capital Region (Denmark). His research interests cover affective and clinical neuroscience, as well as neuropsychology. He uses neuroimaging methods (MRI-fMRI-MRS) to study neural basis and biomarkers of psychiatric disorders such as eating and feeding disorders.
