The city of Trento is located in the North-East of Italy, in a region called Trentino Alto Adige/ Südtirol. Trento is relatively close to the border with Austria (Brenner pass), of which it was part until the end of World War I in 1919. Other important cities closeby are Verona and Padua.

Trento is a lively and interesting city, which combines the typical amenities of a middle-size Italian city (good food, beautiful historical architecture...) with some more peculiar characteristics: one above all, its University, which regularly appears at the highest places in national rankings for quality of education and quality of research, and which attracts students and researchers from all over the world.

The province of Trento ranks third out of 110 Italian provinces for indicators such as quality of life, facilities, culture, entertainment and job opportunities (Sole24Ore, 2015). The whole region of Trentino Alto Adige/ Südtirol is particularly wealthy and notoriously well-functioning, partially due to its autonomous status recognized by the central Italian government, which was obtained for historical and geo-political reasons.

Trento is surrounded by the Alps, and it is close to the stunning natural landscapes of the Dolomites. Living in Trento means living in close contact to nature!
